Dr Sophie Bisset
I am a social research professional with over a decade of experience conducting research for both social reporting and academic publications. I would describe myself as a natural communicator; I enjoy listening to and learning from others, working collaboratively within a team and sharing my own expertise to add value to projects.
I am adept at managing a constantly evolving portfolio of projects across multiple thematic areas including women and girls; young people; international development; education; and climate and the environment. Recent clients that I have delivered projects for include Innovate UK KTN; The British Council; The Royal Society; Natural England; The Youth Sport Trust; EIT-Climate KIC; Research Libraries UK; and Kiva. With a background in both academic and social research, I have produced and published academic articles, research reports, case studies, and best practice guidance for diverse audiences. I believe that the value of social research comes from the ability to share and communicate research findings effectively. In practice, this often means developing multiple research outputs to ensure that findings can be shared with local communities, including young people, just as easily as with technical specialists, programme directors and other individuals in leadership roles.
In addition to my experience as a research professional working with clients and programme participants in the UK and globally, I have delivered academic seminars to undergraduate students; designed and run extracurricular programmes to young people from local schools; and taught low-cost community yoga classes for individuals experiencing socio-economic disadvantage. Social justice matters to me in everything that I do across both my personal and professional life. I am always looking for opportunities to support and empower others in a way that recognises and seeks to overcome embedded power structures that disadvantage already marginalised individuals and communities.
